It is the designated Lead Agency for Children’s Mental Health services and programs in Niagara. Pathstone offers over fifteen specialized mental health services, which are evaluated annually. Pathstone also provides formalized training and execution to graduate students who ae fulfilling their internship and practicum requirements. The GBF team is proud to have been a part of bringing Pathstone’s walk-in-clinic to Grimsby. We appreciate the efforts of all involved as we continue to further expand mental health supports in Grimsby, and feel this is a brilliant way to remove barriers to treatment in our community. This new partnership to be signed between two Niagara organizations is designed to build a children’s mental health system that will be more inclusive and supportive. I have thoroughly enjoyed my 10 years at John Calvin School. I will leave in a couple of weeks or so with many fond memories. I thank and praise the Lord for the health and strength he provided me to complete 38 years of teaching/principalling in our League of Reformed Christian schools. I am extremely thankful for a supportive wife and family, and very thankful for supportive communities, in particular the John Calvin School community. Available to children, youth and families living in the Niagara Region, a Pathstone clinician will meet with parents with children who are 6 and under and youth up to age 18 on a first come first serve basis. Thanks to a joint commitment and true community effort, mental health services are now being offered in Niagara-on-the-Lake through a Walk-In Clinic operated by Pathstone Mental Health. • Professor of Recreation and Leisure Studies Colleen Hood and PhD student Lauren Cripps are examining the impact of therapeutic recreation intervention designed to support the development of positive identity for youth with mental health challenges. Pathstone Mental Health and Brock University signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Friday, March 22 that solidifies a collaboration that will positively impact children suffering with mental health in Niagara and beyond. A new partnership between two Niagara organizations will mean a direct connection between the people conducting leading-edge research on child mental health and the caregivers who work with families dealing with related issues. Through their involvement in the Many Hands Project, students not only had the opportunity to contribute to the community but gained valuable real-world experience in their chosen industry. They raised funds and awareness for Pathstone by organizing and hosting a series of events including a Designer Handbag Bingo , Rise and Shine Yoga , Turntable Trivia and Taps Apps and Laughs comedy show . With no budget, students built all aspects of their campaign, from venue selection, sponsorship and fundraising, to social media, marketing and execution. Kim Rossi, director of philanthropy and public relations at Pathstone Foundation, noted that the funds will be used to support play therapy – a type of psychotherapy which involves using toys as words and play as the primary mode of communication. On Friday, April 12th, amateur boxers from across the Niagara Region joined forces at the the 3rd annual KO for Kids event at the Scotiabank Convention Center . ALL Proceeds from are being directed to Pathstone Mental Health and Box Run Charitable Foundation, both of which support children and families across Niagara. We needed to get further into communities across the region and this was the best way to do it, while offering immediate mental health counselling which we know is essential for kids. Collaborative efforts between Pathstone and town and city councils, have resulted in the opening of four new Hear & Now Walk-In Clinics, located in Niagara Falls, Welland, Fort Erie and Port Colborne. Supporting Pathstone’s Walk-In Clinic for youth in Niagara Falls is a way that we can make a real contribution toward safe, accessible mental wellness in our community. The bottom line is that we have a need here, and we are filling the gap by partnering with Pathstone so they can provide this important service to our young people. The Grimsby Benevolent Fund is very excited to have built a relationship with the Pathstone Mental Health group.
The Town of Grimsby’s decision to bring a walk-in clinic to the youth of our community is an example of what can be done when passionate and motivated groups collaborate to reach a common goal. The walk-in clinic is another “box checked off” for the GBF as it continues to deploy its resources, and have a positive impact on the mental health of our community. We acknowledged the need to get further into communities across our region and this is the most effective way to do it. Offering immediate mental health counselling which we know is essential, means kids are heard as soon as they seek support without delay. Town and city councils are walking with us shoulder to shoulder on this effort and as a result, we have been able to establish seven Hear & Now Walk-In Clinic sites across Niagara. Pathstone’s Hear & Now Walk-In Clinic is open five days per week at the Branscombe Mental Health Centre in St. Catharines and one day each week in Grimsby, Beamsville, Niagara Falls, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Port Colborne, Welland and Fort Erie. There is no appointment, cost or health card required to meet one-on-one with a Pathstone clinician. SO apparently #quarantinelife is getting to me and too much Netflix has fried my brain and I’ve lost my capacity to function in the real world. The Town has already solidified a two year commitment to provide walk-in services in partnership with Niagara Community Foundation. Along with this program, GBF has also distributed “Wellness Bingo” cards, which list a number of goals and activities for each of the four wellness categories. Those who fill out the bingo card by completing those activities can redeem it at GBF for a prize. The care kits will go out within the next two weeks and after a period of time, GBF volunteers will follow-up with the participants to collect feedback on how the kits helped. This comes as GBF has expanded its purpose to not only care for the basic needs of residents of Grimsby, but also the wellness of the wider community. KO for Kids is an annual boxing charitable event that takes place “in the round” at the Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Canada in support of Pathstone Mental Health, Ronald McDonald House and Stem Cell Research. We added as many tables that the space could allow in order to ensure we didn’t have any disappointed fans. The team at Scotiabank Convention Centre have been hosting this event each year and have committed to KO for KIDS 2020, a date will be announced in the coming months. May 9th – Today, members of the KO for KIDS committee, are pleased to announce a grand total of $107,585 raised in support of Children’s Mental Health and Childhood Cancer. Calling it a brain sanctuary, Pathstone CEO Shaun Baylis spoke about the sensory experience the outdoor space will provide for Pathstone’s clients. “Kids will rediscover the harmony found in being part of nature and will experience natural mindfulness that comes from digging into the earth, touching water and smelling trees and flowers. A hand up from Ontario Trillium Foundation to Pathstone will improve childhood for Niagara families. This three year MOU will also involve the creation of a joint governance committee made up of an equal number of representatives from both organizations. Their job will be to provide insight, oversight and foresight, and to discuss and review joint programs, initiatives and opportunities. Established by the late Ken Fowler in 1987, the Foundation was established to provide support to many local groups including Pathstone, Start Me Up Niagara, Quest Community Health Care, R.E.A.C.H and Wellspring. Much can be done to prevent suicide at individual, community and national levels. On this, World Mental Health Day, Pathstone Foundation is thrilled to announce an inspirational commitment of $140,000 over four years to the Walk-In Clinic services. Niagara Regional Native Centre is an Indigenous Social Service agency that addresses the needs of the Urban Indigenous Community in Niagara. The renaissance of craft beer that has swept North America over the past thirty years has transformed the Ontario landscape, leaving over two hundred breweries, both great and humble, dotting the province. The diversity of craft beers we now enjoy is unprecedented in history and dazzling to behold. For the growing number of people who find their interest piqued, the sheer selection of brews can be intimidating. Sparkplug Coffee, a mail-order coffee company, is delighted to bring our artisanal coffees to the Barley’s Angels Holiday Market. This partnership ensures that families don’t have to go far for immediate mental health support for their children. Once a space has been found, the Hear & Now Walk-In Clinic will be open one day per week in the town of Grimsby. There is no appointment, no cost and no health card needed to see a Pathstone clinician for mental health support. This partnership will also bring a greater knowledge of the cultural needs and practises of Indigenous people. We believe this MOU represents a tremendous foundation that will build capacity, improve services, and help children and youth across the region. As a result of this year’s Many Hands Project, $40,800 was donated to Pathstone Mental Health – a community-based organization that provides innovative and effective treatment for all children in Niagara diagnosed with mental health issues.

The funds were announced at a Many Hands Project reveal ceremony held at Branscombe Mental Health Centre in St. Catharines on April 15. The donation included $35,858 raised by NC student fundraisers and $5,000 from Canadian Tire Bank, a sponsor and long-time supporter of NC’s Many Hands Project. The goal is to create easier accessibility and give support to youth and their families who are in need of mental health services. It’s my hope that Pathstone’s additional Hear & Now Walk-In Clinic sites will be a great access point for youth and families who need our services but found it difficult to get to St. Catharines. I’m looking forward to offering guidance to kids and families and working on new strategies to best support their mental wellness. Grimsby town council has approved the creation of a child and youth mental health walk-in clinic. The only issue standing in the way, is the need for a free, safe space to house it. We are pleased to be collaborating with Pathstone to provide culturally relevant and supportive mental health services to the Urban Indigenous community in Niagara. This formal understanding is an extension of the relationship the two agencies have shared for many years. Indigenous traditional teachings speak of respect, friendship, interconnectedness and having a Good Mind. Additionally, as professionals, we use a two lens concept with respect to Mental Health treatment of our people. We understand the need for the Western way of treatment, but also recognize that our original teachings embody the concepts of trauma informed practices. We will put our Good Minds together to service our next 7 Generations. The Fowler Family Foundation has been privileged to be a supporter of Pathstone’s work over the past several years. Their move to extend hours and areas of where mental health Walk-In clinic services can be accessed speaks to the Pathstone Team’s commitment to the community. We are proud to support such a strong initiative to deliver care as quickly as possible to kids and families across Niagara who need it. The City of Niagara Falls is taking steps to ensure families don’t have to go far for mental health support. Niagara Falls City council approved and committed funding to opening a satellite one-day per week walk-in clinic called the Hear & Now Clinic, run by Pathstone Mental Health in the City of Niagara Falls. On behalf of Council we are delighted to partner with Pathstone and GBF Community Services to bring this important support for mental health to Grimsby. The walk-in clinic will provide youth and families access to crucial resources in our community. Our founder, 3-time Olympian and Commonwealth Champion boxer Mike Strange ran a marathon a day for 94 days from St. John’s, Newfoundland, to his hometown of Niagara Falls, Ontario. Since then, BoxRun has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for cancer research and family support services. Pathstone is the primary and only Accredited Children’s Mental Health Agency in the Niagara Region.
